Note from the Publisher - September 2008

With the South's mild climate, many kids' sports have become year round and probably, a big part of your family's daily schedule. The sporting opportunities for fun and fitness are immense. In this issue, we feature some well -known sports and some sports that may be not so familiar. Finding the right sport for your child can be a bit of a challenge. When you do find a good fit, watching their development and life lessons learned is incredibly rewarding.
Last month, we all enjoyed the thrills the Olympics provided. From Gymnastics to Basketball and Volleyball to Water Polo, we were astonished and delighted. Watching Michael Phelps' determination, perfection, and excellence in the water inspired kids and parents all over the world. The pride we felt as Americans was immeasurable, but can you imagine the pride his hometown must feel? Could the next Michael or Natalie be from the south side of Atlanta? In Fayette County, three swimmers made the US Swimming Olympic trial cuts in the past year. Although these athletes did not make the Olympic team, no doubt, they have their sights set on London. Hopefully, these and all upcoming swimmers continue to have the facilities available to them to train year- round to pursue their own dreams and maybe even bring us Olympic hometown pride. In swimming, as well as, gymnastics, and even sports like table tennis, kids everywhere dream of improving to the level of Olympians. What a gift it is that we live in a country where communities provide the support that enable our children to grow up pursuing their Olympic dreams, while still living at home with their families.
We hope you enjoy this issue, get your kid's involved in a fun sport they love, and as always, Make It Great Month.
