Note from the Publisher - June 2010

My husband and I have pretty much made sure that we'll never be empty nesters—we're not even positive that 'retirement' will ever be an option! With four kids between the ages of seven and eighteen, plus aging parents, we're officially part of the "The Sandwich Generation". There's a very good chance you might be part of this group, too. Millions of Americans find themselves "sandwiched" between two generations. They are struggling to raise their kids while caring for an aging parent. Couples are starting families later; people are living longer. Add up all those factors and you can understand why the Pew Research Center calculates that some 23 million Americans now live in households made up of at least three generations. That doesn't, of course, include the seven to ten million Americans managing their parents' care long distance.
Changing diapers and making sure dozens of pills are taken at the right time can become quite a delicate balancing act. There will be times that are emotionally charged, changes in family dynamics, and sacrifices made by all. However, just like the rewards that come from being a parent, becoming caregivers to aging family members can be a blessing for the whole family.
In this issue, we feature a few ways to make life for this generation a little easier. If you have some great strategies to share, or other topics you'd like us to cover, as always, please let us know.
Again, thank you for continuing to pick up our publication each month, and remember to tell our advertisers you saw them in Just 4 Families Digest.
Make it a great month! Make it a great month!
