Note from the Publisher - April 2008

Deb Presley, Publisher

Happy Spring! Hopefully, April’s weather will be more like a lamb than the wild lion-like weather we experienced in March. With spring being sprung and a touch of summer in the air, we mothers have a common realization that comes to mind. We must come to terms with the reality that SCHOOL IS ALMOST OUT! Those peaceful hours, when the house is quiet enough to catch our breath and regain our sanity, are just about to take a hiatus.

Instead the chants of “Whatta are we gonna do today?” and “There’s nothing in here to eat!” return to the household. Don’t misunderstand; I actually do look forward to having the kids at home for the summer. I just wish they came with a tour guide to answer the “Whatta we gonna do today?” question, a cook to make them something every hour on the hour, a maid to pick up after them, and while we are fantasizing here, a pool boy to clean the pool, of course.

And yes, you’re correct, if you’re thinking this isn’t the run-of-the-mill kids’ directory. Our goal is to be informative and helpful. We hope to share quality product and service ideas for your children, to highlight local happenings with our events calendar, to entertain, and most importantly . . . to bring a smile. Just tuning in to the latest news confirms that we all could use a little more humor in our lives.

This month, our theme is Summer Camp. From overnight camp to day camps and classes, we have something that should please nearly every child. Also, you’ll find lots of information concerning your child’s readiness for camp, some additional resources to find camps, and the many wonderful benefits of your child attending camps. This should be very helpful when your nosey neighbor condescendingly says, “Oh, so you’re shipping them off to camp.” You can proudly answer, “Actually Gladys, I’m giving them the opportunity for new experiences that will build life skills that they will carry with them as successful, productive adults that are psychologically sound enough not to feel the need to meddle into other families’ affairs. Again, we may be fantasizing here, just a bit.

Finally, enjoy a fun little jaunt with “Bonding Moments Camp-Style”; it may just take you down memory lane to some of your own camp experiences.

Next month, we will not only give you more great summer camp information, but without your own personal tour guide for your kids, we will give you more answers for “Whatta we gonna do today?” with our special day-trip issue. Thank you again for taking the time to read Just 4 Kids, for using our coupons, and for letting our advertisers know you saw them in Just 4 Kids Family Directory.
