Note from the Publisher - February 2008

First of all, THANK YOU for your kind words on our premiere issue. This month, we focus on being Heart Healthy. Maintaining healthy hearts really is a family affair. In our hectic lives, we oftentimes take our health for granted. In this issue, we’ve got the “Lowdown on Heart Health.” It will shed some light on the sometimes confusing information regarding the terms cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides. For our kids, “heart healthy” means getting enough exercise and, of course, eating right. The first thing we can do for our kids is to be a positive role model. If we are practicing healthy habits, it is a whole lot easier to convince our kids to do the same. Glancing up from the computer to ask your child to take a break from PlayStation to go outside and get some exercise is just not as effective as asking him to go take a bike ride with you. Plan times for everyone to get moving together. Take walks, ride bikes, go swimming, go to the park, and maybe even go rock climbing together. To increase our family fitness time together, we took a Sunday afternoon trip to try indoor rock climbing. You can read about our experience, and you just may even decide to give it a try with your family, too.
